Our first year CSD graduate student, Jenna Lloyd, has been selected for the prestigious Language First Student Ambassador Program 2025-26. Jenna joined our lab as a graduate research assistant last Fall and has been involved in a project that focuses on predictive sentence comprehension in deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Jenna also organizes the ASL study club for CSD students at Rinker Health Science campus, Chapman University.
A Language First student ambassador is a current undergraduate junior or senior, or first-year graduate student in a CSD program in the US. The ambassador program is a one-year commitment, beginning in March each year. Only five student ambassadors are accepted for each cohort, to ensure a close mentorship relationship with Language First team members and other students in the program.
Language First aims to educate and raise awareness about American Sign Language (ASL)/English bilingualism and the importance of a strong first language foundation for Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children.
